The Brass Boot combines robust leathers, rugged outsoles, and all-day comfort. The moc toe is hand-sewn onto a one-piece vamp. The Floyd last features the same locked-in heel control but with higher walls at the toe box to allow forefoot freedom.
This boot utilizes our lug sole, which is designed for harsher conditions. The taller lugs and medium-density compound offer a combination of traction and durability.

The Floyd last runs a half-size large. Our customers typically take our Floyd-lasted footwear a half-size down from their average sneakers size or the same size as their other Goodyear-welted footwear. However, if you have low volume feet, you may want to go a full size down.

So my little sizing experiment was a resounding success. Watched a video from aerosurferlv a while back on messing with lengths and widths on sizing, and I’ve been interested in giving it a shot.
I usually wear a 10.5D in grantstone but I can pull off a snug 10D. These Brass Boots from the B Grade section are 9EEE and fit better than probably any of my other grantstone boots. That’s not to say 10.5D or 10D fit bad, but this is definitely better.
Aside from that, I’m happy to have the Brass Boot in what I’d consider a classic color. My Tan Essex pair are amazing but the rugged, dark brown Waxy Commander leather compliments this design so well.

This sentiment may be somewhat predictable! But I love this stitchdownpatinathunderdome presenting sponsor team-up: standardandstrange is now stocking a curated selection of grantstone boots in their NYC and Oakland stores (and online, of course), the first time Grant Stone—who almost exclusively sells direct through their own site—have been available in a US shop.
Being able to actually, you know, try boots on before you buy them is a pretty important thing! And it’s not exactly getting easier to do these days. So this is pretty cool for that alone.
Everything’s just in D widths for now, but before too long you should be seeing some of GS’s E and EEE widths as well.
And while everything’s stock makeups to start, don’t expect it to remain that way forever…
