Our first dress shoe has arrived! The idea behind this model was to create a last that was comfortable to wear over a long day. It is common for the Oxford shoe to be labeled as a "difficult fitter" due to the last shape and a narrower toe box.
When making the Oliver last, we wanted to create a comfortable, fuller fit without sacrificing the traditional, sleek dress look.

French calf oxford by @grantstone. Probably the ideal oxford for someone just getting into them and coming from more casual pairs. The French calf leather and last in combination make for a great oxford that easily can be dressed down. I actually like to reach for it with casual trousers like linen in the summer or denim year round. From a versatility standpoint I’d love to see Grant Stone come out with a dark brown French calf version of this shoe.

Now that I’ve had a little more time with these grantstone oxfords I keep being drawn back to them (even preemptively polished and brushed them the other day just so I could admire them for a bit 😂). I know a lot of guys thought they were too round of a toe for an oxford but I think when considering the brand aesthetic and current customer base it’s sort of spot on. They are kind of aiming for the guy who’s used to more casual styles and drawing them in for their first oxford with a less intimidating last design and easy fit. I think it’s a perfect strategy to convert their existing customer base into a new style.

Of course I touched on it before but I also love the leather. It’s French Calf from the Annonay tannery and really is a great choice for their oxford. The depth of color and the beautiful creasing will surely prove for a shoe with wonderful longevity.
.
These will not be for the fans of sleek lasts but if you’re like me; they might be the right “dip your feet in the oxford pool” sort of shoe.

Some shots of yesterday’s outfit, I’m being much more lazy/comfy with the fit today 💆♂️

A couple of newer items in the mix here. The big new item is the wilhelmclothes by epaulet natural duck canvas pant. I struggle with sizing having bigger thighs/calves and so far these have been awesome fitting. I keep trying to make myself love trousers but again struggle with fitting and this might be the answer I’ve been looking for. The style is a 5 pocket design like a jean and seems to suit me really well.

Maiden voyage around the office for these oxfords from grantstone (thanks again for sending this pair to check out 🙏🏻).

Im going to wear them a few more times before I write up something a little more extensive on size/QC/etc, I’ll just touch on my first impression today. The big thing that really hit me was how great the leather is. Seriously, the website pics make the leather look kind of flat and lifeless, they do them no justice. My expectation there was kind of low and was pleasantly surprised when I opened the box. In person it has so much depth to it, the creasing is nice and tight with the first steps, and the color is fantastic. .
